Recovery from the impact of sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse is possible. Often times, the healing process begins by taking the brave step of reaching out.
Sexual trauma can effect all parts of our lives and often shows up as:
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Depression
Anxiety
Feeling Detached
Guilt, shame, self-blame
Hyper-vigilance
Physical symptoms like chronic pelvic pain, pain with sex, or incontinence.
But in the day-to-day it actually looks like: feeling on edge, avoiding triggering experiences, withdrawing from a partner or loved ones, struggling to relax or issues with sleep, to name a few examples.
What I support clients with is building a life where they’re not defined by their past experiences but engaged in a life where they feel safe in their body and mind, have trust in their relationships, and have the confidence and tools to support themselves through even the most difficult of moments.
